UNITY

Psalm 133:1-3

How good it is for brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and especially church members, to dwell in unity. It is there in this unity that the Lord commands His blessing. Do you want God’s blessing? Get in unity. God searches for unity between church members, in marriages, in families. When He finds this unity, it is pleasant to His eyes. Geographically, wherever God finds unity, it is a landing strip for a blessing from Him. The more unity, the bigger the landing strip. The bigger the landing strip, the bigger the blessings.

Since the beginning of time satan wants to divide and conquer and stop the unity. He does that to churches, families, brothers and sisters, any way he can. He knows his power is dismantled by unity.

A picture of spiritual unity can be seen in the natural Olympic sport called Crew. Nine strong muscular men in a boat, totaling up to 2200 pounds. The boat is only 24 inches wide, so it’s a tight fit. The rowers have to work together in a very complicated endeavor. There are 8 men and each team, four oars on the left, four on the right, rowing in absolute synchrony with their backs facing the direction they are going. A coach sits at the back of the boat facing the men. The crew of men can’t see where they are going, so they gave to trust the voice of their coach who is the only one who sees the direction.

Jesus is the coach in our boat. You may not have an 8 man crew; you may be by yourself. Listen to your coach Jesus, keep your eyes on Him, even if you don’t know where you are going.  Coach Jesus is going to direct your path, leading you to victory.

Back to the Olympic sport Crew. If you want an idea of how difficult this sport is, put 8 golfers on a log in the water and tell them to swing at the ball exactly the same time, hit the ball in exactly the same way with the same amount of force, and keep doing this for 6 minutes. There is no other sport in comparison to the necessity of perfect teamwork other than this sport called Crew. Every muscle in the body is being used. The race only lasts 6 minutes because the human body can’t endure much longer than this.  When perfectly synced the boat glides and goes faster than it could otherwise go.

In the same way as the Crew, when God finds a family, a country, a church, dwelling together in unity, it is good and pleasant to Him. God wants us to operate as a Crew team. We need to realize we are so much more powerful when we are acting in unity. Psalm 133 tells us that when unity happens, it is there that God will command His blessing.
